Intersection of Culture and Entrepreneurship
On December 9th, YED successfully held the first sharing seminar session in this semester, which themed at Communication Creative Industry & Youth Entrepreneurship. Our guest speaker, Mr. Frankie Yeung, MH JP, gave an inspiring speech on culture and entrepreneurship. It was followed by two student programs’ performance and sharing, LandMan Music and Live Studio Network. This seminar was welcomed warmly by YED ambassadors, undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The seminar started with a speech from Mr. Frankie Yeung, MH JP, a business leader and expert of Chinese arts. As the Deputy Chairman of Council of Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Chairman the Cantonese Opera Development Fund Advisory Committee (HK Gov), Mr. Frankie Yeung talked about his working and life experience in vivid words. He firstly mentioned that a successful life should include three aspects, namely family, career and social service. He then emphasized the importance of positioning and enough preparation in order to become a successful salesman.
When mentioning what was the fundamental value of a good leader, his answer surprised all---- to be a good follower first. He believed that success was the result of accumulation years after years. Moreover, he gave us useful suggestions on body language, doing interesting demonstrations himself. Laughing and nodding, the students learnt what proper body language was in the business world. After that, he shared his experience on presentation, including his attitude, skills and tips, all of which are very important for students to learn to deliver their ideas and projects. He encouraged us to keep pursuing vision, insights and creativity. The speech was received with loud applause. In the Q&A session, he also answered students’ questions on work life balance and social responsibility.
Then there was the live performance from LandMan Music, a mainland undergraduate student group from HKU. Aimed at spreading their music concept and dream, they have already achieved great success. In their new song, Roving, they used beautiful melodies to express their genuine feeling of homesick and their pursuit of ideals, singing out the heartfelt wishes of many mainland students. Deeply moved and impressed, the guests and students applauded them for their music talent and creativity.
After that, Mr. Kelvin Yuen, a leader of another student group, Live Studio Network, showed their documentary named Struggles For Land: NE New Territories Developing Stories. The documentary, which cost two years to complete, revealed living conditions in the territories and students’ reflection on the development of the city.
Our guest speaker, Mr. Frankie Yeung spoke highly of both student groups and gave them helpful suggestions on how to achieve further success.
At the end of the sharing session, mentor certificates were presented to Mr. Frankie Yeung, MH JP andMs.Wendy Ho by Dr. CK Cheung, an academic from Faculty of Education, HKU.
After the seminar ended, many students stayed to talk to guests, mentors and other students. With the exchange of business cards, many of them are going to establish further connections.
